Passage: Ephesians 6:1-4
1 Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. 2 “Honor your father and mother”—which is the first commandment with a promise— 3 “so that it may go well with you and that you may enjoy long life on the earth.”[a]
4 Fathers, do not exasperate your children; instead, bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord.READ FULL CHAPTER »
This chapter begins with a commandment, one with a promise. These verses are powerful because they have the potential to have generational impact on your family and on our Society. These verses are about releasing and respecting each generation: encouraging each other.
- Have you ever considered how selfish you are, or parents have you considered how selfish your children are?
- Submitting to authority isn’t easy. It doesn’t come naturally to us, but we can move closer to obedience to Jesus.
- Parents: you can set example and guidelines that grow your children, but ensure you don’t crush their spirit.
This passage is connected to Ephesians 5:22. The Message gives a great perspective for these verses that introduce Ephesians 6.
Eph 5:22 Out of respect for Jesus be courteously reverent to each other, submit to one another… (msg)
