Small Group Questions: His Name is… Refugee

pursue
Invite someone to pray asking the Spirit to move and speak during your small group time.

ICEBREAKER

Where are you from?
Use a glass or other simple object to designate the person sharing.
Hand the glass to one group member and ask them their recent family heritage (last three generations).
Ask:
Do they have any displaced or migrant heritage?
Do they have a culture, other than European Australian, that was passed on to them?
Do or did their family ever miss their home country?

Continue the process with the group. Each person can choose the next one to share until the whole group has shared.

DISCUSS

Ask:
What impacted you out of John’s sermon?

Read
Philippians 2:7-8

Ask
Do you agree that Jesus is a refugee? In what context can He be considered a refugee

Read
Have one of the group read 2 Corinthians 5:21

Ask
How do you understand Jesus Death? What does it do for us?

Read
Have one of the group read the following:
2 Corinthians 5:17 (Msg)   Now we look inside, and what we see is that anyone united with the Messiah gets a fresh start, is created new. The old life is gone; a new life burgeons! Look at it!

Ask
Why does it matter that Jesus came to be with us?
What does this tell us about God?
Can you think of anyone that demonstrates unity with the Messiah and a fresh start?
How has this inspired you?

Prayer and Rejoicing
Thank God for his Son – his Gift too wonderful for words!  (2 Corinthians 9:15, NLT)
Let the group express their thanks in prayer, praise or written reflection.
Allow time for this to unfold and explain to the group that they can choose to take 5 minutes to write something, they can pray freely or praise God.
Let the group share together in this time of rejoicing.

PRAYER
Close the time in a further prayer of thanks.

God Bless.
