Small Group Questions: Love the Lord Your God.

pursue

Invite someone to pray asking the Spirit to move and speak during your small group time.

ICEBREAKER

Ask:
What is one thing you obsess about? Is there something that holds your thoughts and imagination?

DISCUSS

Read:
Have one of the group read Matthew 22:34-40
Have another read the two passages 1 John 4:19 and Ephesian 2:8-9

Discuss:
In the message Luke shared how, growing up, he viewed Jesus’ commands in Matthew 22:34-40 as a rule to keep to please God.
What do the following passages have to say about this: 1 John 4:19 and Ephesian 2:8-9

Ask:
The Pharisees ask Jesus for one command, and he replies with two. Why do you think he did this?

Brainstorm:
We enjoy God’s love by spending quality time with him. What ways do you connect with God? Brainstorm as a group.
What are some ways you can connect with God in the next week?

Read:
Ask one of the group to read John 14:15

Sharing:
Responding to God’s life affects everything we do- in every day of the week. Honestly share as a group what areas you find difficult to obey God.

Application:
In Matthew 22 Jesus invites us to love others. Jesus is our Leader and our Example- He loved the outcast and He loved them sacrificially. Who is someone that you find hard to love?
What is one practical thing you can do to love these people?

Reflection
What is one time in the past, that you loved someone even though it cost you?

PRAYER
Finish by spending time in prayer:
Pray that you will breathe in God’s love, that you will take time to enjoy His love and enjoy His presence.
Pray that you will share this love with others- radically and selflessly.

Breathe in and breathe out…

God Bless.
