Small Group Questions: Taming Lions

EOLFAOC header

Invite someone to pray asking the Spirit to move and speak during your small group time.

Would you consider you have received a good education?
How has this helped you in life?
Are there other paths you wished you’d taken with hindsight?
Share with the group.

As a group read 1 Corinthians 1:18 – 2:5, passing to the next person at the end of each phrase or paragraph.
Ask each group member to share one thing that stood out for them in this passage.
Read these passages from John 6.
John 6:37 “All those the Father gives me will come to me, and whoever comes to me I will never drive away.”
John 6:44  “No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws them, and I will raise them up at the last day.”
How does this make you feel about the opportunities you have to witness?
What is essential alongside sharing our faith?

Have one of the group read 1 Corinthians 1:26-31.
In our church quite a few people are wise and influential, and there are more with university training than in the average church.
How do these verses challenge us as a church?

Re-read 1 Corinthians 1 :27-28.
If you feel that you are weak and foolish, what encouragement can you draw from these two verses?

Have several group members read 1 Corinthians 2:1-5, Acts 17:22-33, Acts 18:1 & 9-11.
Describe Paul’s sermon in Athens, and the response.
How you think Paul may have felt about the response to his sermon in Athens?
What encouragement may he have taken from Acts 18:10 when he got to Corinth?

Pray as a group for each other, that you may set aside any wisdom you have and seek the wisdom of God. Pray for the opportunity for each to share of their hope in Christ in a sensitive and effective way with people in their life.
