Small Group Questions – Unity and Diversity in the Body

What is something you have learnt from someone who is different to you? Share with the group.

Have one of the group read 1 Corinthians 12:12-26

1. Luke talked about how at the centre of the Trinity is a holy community of love. Our God is One who exists as 3 persons- Father, Son and Spirit- perfectly loving and serving and caring for each other. We are invited to enjoy God’s love. How do we actually enjoy God? What does this practically look like in your life?

2. We are also called to be a community that becomes more like God, that reflects God to this world. How do you think most people in Australia view the church? What are some practical steps that we can take to reflect the perfect community of God?

3. Luke shared that God has created our Christian community with diversity- and that is good and necessary (v 14-20). In fact, for us to be a healthy community we need each member of our church using their gifts to serve and love others. What do you think your spiritual gifts are? Do you feel like you have the opportunity to use these gifts? If you are not sure how God has gifted you, or if you feel that you don’t have the opportunity to use your gifts, please email David Stanford ( or Luke Tassell (

4. From verses 21-26 Luke explained how we are called to be a community that cares for each person: ‘if one person suffers, all the parts suffer with it, and if one part is honoured, all the parts are honoured with it’ (v. 26)

a. Some spiritual gifts are more easily ignored (e.g. serving, giving or praying). Who is a person that you can encourage this week who serves God in these ways?

b. We are part of a global church, and it easy to ignore the voices of millions of believers in the developing world. How do we better listen to their voice? 3 ideas Luke shared were using the Operation World app; checking out Barnabas Fund or signing up for the C2c emails. Can you use one of these?

Finish by praying for the church in the Majority World.
