Brian explored two ways that many people misunderstand God’s Love. On one hand, some believe that because God loves lavishly- he is able overlook sin. This would mean that it doesn’t matter what we do, God simply forgives everything because He loves. Other’s believe that God is not loving at all. They point to the stories in the bible where God pours out His wrath against a group of people. They ask: how could a loving God do this? God is Holy. This characteristic of God explains not only the necessity of wrath towards sin, but how this divine action is consistent with His loving nature. It is through Jesus’ work on the cross and resurrection that divine justice and divine mercy; His love and His righteousness were achieved. And it is by the indwelling of the Spirit that we are made righteous- made holy in God’s sight.
